"One person can change the total course and direction of your life. One word-rightly planted can send your life on a whole new trajectory. I want to be that person that speaks that one word that activates the seed to birth forth your destiny and allows you to live in the area of your purpose and calling!"

-Dr. Koyah

About Dr. Koyah

Dr. Koyah Alston, known to TV audiences as “Dr. K”, is a Motivational Speaker, Amazon Best-Selling Author, TV Personality, Media Executive, and Professor with a passion for inspiring kindergarten-college students and adults to strive, survive, and thrive in school, sports, career, and life! Dr. Koyah is motivating the next generation to turn their ambitions into a reality by developing a plan for school and life success to step into their post-secondary dreams all over the world!

Dr. K was one of the top track and field athletes in the country coming out of high school (Enloe High School-Raleigh, NC) and was the “Queen” of the 200 Meters, while running 11.6-11.7s in the 100 Meters while just 13-14 years old. This track phenom was featured in “Teen Magazine” four different times for her athletic and scholastic achievements. After racking up over 30 college scholarship offers (including offers from Ivy League universities like Brown University) and being coached by Olympian, Antonio Pettigrew, Koyah just knew she was destined for the Olympics. However, injuries caused Dr. K’s athletic career to come to a screeching halt after transitioning to college at The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she became a CAA Conference Scholar, set a school record in the Indoor 500-Meters and went on to participate in the Bronze-winning 4X400 relay team.

However, the same determination, grit, and perseverance that allowed Dr. K to have early athletic success in life culminated in producing a driven college student with vision and a desire to continue to reach greatness even “after the sweat had dried”. She went on to found UNC-Wilmington’s TV Station (SB-TV-now Teal TV) and landed a full-time TV news job in her junior year in college at WECT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Wilmington, NC. From there, Dr. K went on to host many television shows including “Step N2 College”, “Beyond Gifted”, and even became a national television host. From there, Koyah became a nationally recognized motivational speaker and seasoned television personality and has since interviewed countless celebrities including Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Best-Selling Author/Actor, Hill Harper, Actress/Comedian, Kim Coles, Rev. Run, Vanessa & Angela Simmons, Laila Ali, and many celebrities across the U.S.!

As a seasoned higher education administrator, Dr. Koyah served as the Assistant Director of the Undergraduate Business Program at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and managed all the Gradate Dental Program, as well as Graduate Admissions at UNC School of Dentistry.

Along with being the CEO of Rising Boom, LLC and the President of Nerd Beauty Productions and the Managing Director of Hoops Express, Inc. 501c3 and appointed  as a Global Goodwill Ambassador (GGA) for the U.S. and featured as a woman to watch in 2019 by “Formidable Woman Magazine”, Dr. Koyah currently is now the President of Nerd Beauty Productions and the Managing Director of Hoops Express, Inc. 501c3 and an Adjunct Professor of English/Humanities at North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University, and Wake Technical Community College. She further is on the Board of Directors of iMedia Foundation. Koyah has a B.A. Degree in English & Communication Studies from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a M.S. Degree in Adult Education. Dr. Koyah also has a PhD in Leadership Studies with a concentration in higher education at North Carolina A&T State University.
